Fancy visiting the largest glacier in Europe or getting close to thousands of seabirds? Or perhaps travelling from one hemisphere to the other visiting five countries and some of the lesser visited islands in the Atlantic Ocean? Or why not go island hopping in Southern Europe? All this and much more is now possible in 2014 with Hurtigruten, whose latest program of ‘Explorer’ voyages in Spitsbergen, Greenland, Antarctica and Europe features new itineraries and additional departure dates, due to the ever-increasing demand to visit some of the most remote places in the world. A full expedition team is on board to ensure everyone gets the most out of a voyage and learns more about the destination being explored.

Early booking savings of up to 25% off the voyage fare are available when bookings are received no later than 30 June 2013. Each pricing tier is capacity controlled, so the earlier you book the bigger the saving!

New itineraries include:

ICELAND:
11 Day The Land of Fire and Ice – Circumnavigating Iceland – from $AUD6,285 per person, twin share

For the first time, Hurtigruten is offering a voyage that circumnavigates Iceland, the land of fire and ice. During this 11 day voyage, guests can enjoy the vast expanses of unspoilt nature, experience daily life of the mystical island and learn about its history, which dates back to the ancient sagas, during the onboard lectures. For bird lovers there is a trip to the Hornbjarg Cliff, which is one of Iceland’s greatest seafowl habitats, and Vigur, where puffins, eiders, guillemots and arctic terns are abundant. In Höfn guests will have the chance to see the largest and most voluminous glacier in Polar Bears in Spitsbergen Europe. The 11 day voyage aboard ms FRAM departs Reykjavik on 25 May 2014 and fares start from $AUD6,285 per person, twin share including full board and on board lectures and landing program.

EUROPE:
12 Day The Best of the South West – Islands of Southern Europe – from $AUD2,695 per person, twin share

This island-hopping voyage from Las Palmas to Lisbon is a carefully selected collection of interesting, warm and sunny destinations in Southern Europe. Guests will experience the lesser-visited parts of the Canary Islands, explore Funchal, the capital of Madeira, visit the contrasting island of Porto Santo and discover three of the remote islands of the Azores, all in one voyage. The 12 day voyage aboard ms FRAM departs Las Palmas on 1 April 2014 and fares start from $2,695 per person, twin share, including full board and on board lectures and landing program.

GREENLAND – Additional Departures:
Due to the speed in which it sold out for 2013, an additional departure date has been added for the National Park Expedition Voyage which visits North East Greenland National Park, the largest in the world, and yet one of the least visited, and three Arctic Islands: Spitsbergen, Greenland and Iceland. The 15 day/14 night voyage from Iceland to Spitsbergen departs on 20 August and 4 September 2014 in the Arctic autumn and before the winter closes in, making this corner of the planet uninhabitable. Fares start from $AUD9,080 per person, twin share including full board.

SPITSBERGEN:
The return of ‘Polar Bears, Islets and Fjords’ from $AUD4,520 per person, twin share

After several years of not being included in the program, Hurtigruten’s Polar Bears, Islets and Fjords Voyage, from Spitsbergen to Bergen, makes a return in 2014, and this time it’s on Hurtigruten’s newest ship, ms FRAM. This voyage takes guests from the high north of Spitsbergen through the hidden gems of coastal Norway, to the charming hanseatic city of Bergen. En route, there is the opportunity to experience the wildlife of the high Arctic and to learn more about the fascinating history of explorers and whalers through onboard lectures by Hurtigruten’s expedition team. During the voyage, the ship will visit small and isolated islands, settlements and charming fishing villages, some of which are only accessible by boat. The 13 day/12 night voyage departs Longyearbyen on 17 September 2014 and fares start from $AUD4,520 per person, twin share including full board, 11 nights onboard the ship, and one night’s bed and breakfast in Longyearbyen.

TRANSATLANTIC:
‘Treasures of the Atlantic Ocean’ – from $AUD2,680 per person, twin share

Each year ms FRAM relocates hemispheres and unlike previous years when ms FRAM simply sailed from Las Palmas to Buenos Aires or vice versa, for 2014 she will make several stops along the way.

The ‘Treasures of the Atlantic Ocean’ voyage visits five countries and some of the lesser-known islands of the Atlantic Ocean including the fairytale like island Fernando de Noronha, the St Peter and St Paul archipelago and Sao Vicente and Sao Antao in the North West Cape Verde Islands. Hurtigruten’s skilled expedition team will give lectures on various topics and arrange landings in some of the exotic ports of call. The crew are true explorers, always seeking new adventures. Two voyages are available: 14 March 2014 from Buenos Aires to Las Palmas; and Las Palmas to Buenos Aires on 14 October 2014. Fares start from $AUD2,680 per person, twin share including full board.

ANTARCTICA – voyages extended:
Several voyages have been extended to ensure maximum time is spent in Antarctica to explore this fascinating continent. The ‘Land of the Penguins’ and ‘Polar Circle Expedition’ itineraries have been extended allowing guests to spend a full 6 days in Antarctica.
